Township Mzamom’Hle

Mzamom’Hle is the Gonubie Township, near East London and has a population of approximately 40.000, whereof 60% children. Since the year 2000 the South African Government has built approximately 1500 small houses in the Township which were given to registered residents, though many people are still living in shacks.  The township is growing rapidly with people moving in, hoping to find work. This growth is uncontrolled and many of the job-seekers are unemployed.

The Township has a school up to grade 12. The school is overcrowded. A local clinic deals with primary health care. Many children grow up facing difficulties such as parents living separately, death of parents, alcohol and drug abuse, violence and poverty. The people live in close proximity of each other and have little to no private space. Growing up as a child in these living circumstances gives them no protection from seeing and experiencing all the negatives as mentioned.

…the God and Father…comforts us in all our troubles so we can comfort those who are in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God. (2Cor. 1:4)
